3rd March 2025

I was standing in a pretty garden, dressed to impress in a smart looking suit. Around me were lots of other people that I didn’t recognise, all also sporting formal attire. I looked around for a familiar face but couldn’t spot anyone. I also didn’t know where I was, or why everybody had dressed up, so I wandered over to a small rustic building at the end of the garden in search of answers.

Inside were lots of pictures of a couple, happily smiling in various settings. I assumed from this that I was at a wedding, but I didn’t recognise the two individuals starting back at me from the images on the walls. Now I started to think that perhaps I had come uninvited; surely I wouldn’t have received an invite to a ceremony for people that I didn’t know.

A little panicked, I headed back out into the garden and heard a bell ringing. The other people started to head into the larger building opposite me, and I gathered that the event was about to start. Torn between leaving and staying, I decided to remain. If I was dressed up, I had to have been prepared for this – so why not enjoy the show?

I followed the crowd into the house and along a number of corridors until we reached an open hall. The usual seating arrangement was laid out for bride’s guests and groom’s guests, and now I was stumped as to which side I belonged. Eager not to cause a fuss, I sat towards the back on the left-hand side. I watched as more and more people filtered in, and my mind drifted towards day dreaming until everything faded into the night.

Whether I was supposed to have been there or not, I didn’t get to see the wedding.
